  • Stop the sale website
stopthesale.ca shared information about why a pet store by-law was needed
  • 90% of pet store puppies come from puppy mills.
  • There are 2,200 puppy mills in Quebec alone, producing 400,000 puppies a year.
  • There are 3,000+ unwanted animals in Kingston each year.

The statistics don't lie. Stores that sell pets are big business and a big problem. We tackled this problem at the source, lobbying Kingston city council to enact a by-law that would restrict the sale of dogs, cats and rabbits in Kingston stores to only those from shelters or rescues. It took a full year, several meetings, presentations, petitions, debates and a whole heck of a lot determination, but in the end the majority of councillors voted in support of the by-law, which came into effect August 14, 2013.
