Ben came to us from a shelter where he was facing euthanasia. In the shelter environment he was nervous and unable to show his great personality. It turns out that Ben is a cuddle junkie who loves nothing more than snuggling up and lounging with his foster family. He is an excellent Netflix companion and will happily settle in for a long couch session.

Although he loves to snuggle, Ben is no couch potato. He is an energetic and playful dog. He's happy hanging his head out the window on a car ride and he loves to go for walks. He needs a family committed to providing lots of exercise. Ben gets along well with other dogs and enjoys playing with doggy friends.

While he loves to cuddle, Ben is uncomfortable with his rear paws being touched or the back half of his body being examined by a vet. He will growl and posture. He may need to be muzzled for veterinary exams or possibly sedated. We feel that Ben is best suited for an adult-only home. Ben has a heart murmur, but this has been evaluated via a cardiac ultrasound and found to be insignificant.

Ben is a true hound, so he most often has his nose to the ground tracking a scent. Surprisingly, he is not particularly vocal in the house, though he will bark if left outside in the yard alone - he would much rather be inside with the family. Ben needed some help with his manners when he arrived, but he now knows sit, stay, and come, and he is learning to walk politely while on a leash. Overall, Ben is a loving, tail-wagging puppy who will make an excellent companion.

Ben is fully vaccinated and neutered.
