COVID-19 NOTICE

Due to COVID-19, adoption applications may experience processing delays. Additionally, several policies and procedures have been implemented to enhance the safety of our foster home volunteers and adopters:

  • Limited use of in-home animal meet and greets. In lieu of in-person visits, we facilitate connection between potential adopters and foster homes via telecommunications including email, phone, and video conferencing and use outdoor visits where approrpiate (dogs).
  • Limited use of home visits with adopters. In lieu of in-person visits, we facilitate home checks via telecommunications including email, phone, and video conferencing.
  • Acceptance of Risk and Release waiver.
  • Adoption contracts are completed digitally and payment is via e-commerce (e-transfer or credit card).
  • Contactless or minimal contact transfer of animals between foster and adoptive homes.

Thank you for choosing to give an animal a safe and loving home.

To complete this application you are required to share information about your current and/or past animals, including their medical care, if applicable. You may wish to collect this informaiton before starting as you will not be able to save the application or re-start it at a later date.

The following information is requested so that we can assist you in selecting an animal companion. When adopting an animal, it is important that your entire family knows what will be involved. All information on this application will be kept confidential unless disclosure is required by law.

Once approved and matched with your new pet, there is an adoption contract to sign and an adoption fee to pay. All adult animals will come spayed or neutered, if appropriate for the species. If the animal(s) is not yet ready for spay/neuter, KAR will arrange for the procedure to be done at a later date (the cost of which is covered already by the adoption fee). If you do not cooperate with the future spay/neuter the animal(s) will be reclaimed by Kingston Animal Rescue. The adoption fee is non-refundable for any reason, even if you decide to return the animal to our care.

We will not adopt out rabbits for Easter.

In order to be considered as an adopter, you must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • Live within driving distance of Kingston and provide valid photo identification with your birth date and current address. We welcome out of town adoptions, but we will not ship animals. You must be able to come to Kingston, Ontario, Canada to complete the adoption.
  • Allow a visit to your home to see the conditions the animal will be living in, if requested.
  • Be able and willing to house your adopted animal indoors and with consent of all involved.
  • Be financially stable and willing to provide any necessary medical care.
