A pair of young women bought an irresistible baby rabbit from a pet store. From the moment they brought their baby home, she did not eat or poop. The girls called the store and were told to feed their new baby more treats (treats are extremely bad for the very sensitive digestive system of a baby rabbit).
On the third day the girls became increasingly worried that their baby still was not getting better. They decided to surrender her so she could receive medical care. This poor baby arrived at KAR in severe GI stasis - an extremely serious, life threatening condition for any bunny, especially a baby who is only a few weeks old.
Sadly after several days of round-the-clock care and even some hopeful progress, Valentine passed away. No rabbit should have to go through the suffering that this baby went through. We hope that Valentine's story will be a reminder to never support pet stores and backyard rabbit breeders. This message is an especially important one as spring and Easter near.
