Sébastien was one of the Montreal cats we rescued in November. He – like the other 10 – was scheduled to be euthanized in a gas chamber before he came to us. His nickname in the shelter was “sad eyes.” When he first arrived he spent a lot of time hiding under the bed, unsure of his new world. About a month after he came into our care his lovely foster home noticed that he was peeing and drinking more than she thought was normal.

Sébastien went for a urine analysis. The results were inconclusive, so we proceeded with blood work. This came back normal but Sébastien’s vet still felt there was something going on. Next steps included x-rays, an ultrasound and another thorough physical exam. Sébastien’s ultrasound revealed that he has very misshapen kidneys. This, combined with enlarged lymph nodes and other symptoms, led to the very sad diagnosis of renal lymphoma - cancer.

We’re not sure how much time Sébastien has left. He is in an incredible foster home – his forever home – and is doing well. He has other kitty friends, is eating and drinking well, and has even gained more than half a pound since his original diagnosis. Recent blood work revealed his kidney levels have increased, so he is now eating prescription food. Had Sébastien not come to us, he would have suffered a cruel and loveless death. While his time may be shorter than we had hoped, here he is loved and safe.
